Interview
What books have most influenced your life?
Biographies and personal stories make the most difference. Usually they are a necessary distraction from seemingly unending daily commitments.
Who are your favorite music artists?
I listen to a wide range, from Leanord Cohen to pop and Hawaiian.
What are your favorite websites and why?
http://newoldage.blogs.nytimes.com/ shares stories which are very relevant to dealing with old age and sometimes Alzhiemer's. I often strenuously disagree with some of the author's assertions or conclusions, but she also offers very useful references and details, and her stories evoke thoughtful discussion.
Where else can people find you on the web?
Right now just here.
What are your professional highlights?
I made a huge career change, although I was doing quite well. It was my desire to simplify life and slow down. I didn't know it at the time, but it helped me prepare for this period of my life where I am taking care of my father.
What advice do you have for the journey of life?
It's unique to each individual, but try to find those things which bring you real satisfaction. It may not be an obvious thing like winning an Emmy, but truth be told, it may be even more valuable - to you. That's all that matters at the end of the day.
What are you most passionate about in life?
Life is a bit busy these days, let's pause on that for a while.
What ticks you off?
People who ignore others, who try to impose their will without regard.
Any thoughts or ideas on living a greener life?
I'm living a greener life. My carbon footprint is about 80% less than the typical American. Yes, I hang-dry my clothes and don't find it a bother. I still have my broadband and all the other gadgets. It's a readjustment, not compromising.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I'm pretty much as-you-see-me, it's just that most people can't comprehend the life I lead.
